Athletes and Entertainers for Change Presents The Sky Academy 2018
“Artistically changing the future one child at a time.”
The mission of The Sky Academy 2017 (A program by The AEFC) is to expose underserved students who would potentially like to explore careers in the television and film industry. The Sky Academy includes developing (but not limited to) writers, producers, directors, cinematographers, art director, audio engineer, editors & lighting technicians. There is currently an open dialogue concerning the lack of diversity in Hollywood on both sides of the camera that indicates a program of this caliber is very much in need. The purpose of The Sky Academy is to cultivate future content contributors in an industry that may seem less tangible to them. Exposing the students to the culture of film making through the opportunity to work on a professional set is very unique. Having the students participate in the process from pre-production to post-production to seeing the final product on screen gives them real life experience that simply cannot be taught in the classroom. This program affords them the opportunity to grow and ensures that we continue to cultivate diversity in an industry where there is great lack. As a part of the cultural arts development division, the students also experience an evening in theatre and fine dining as well as a day at a local museum.
Involvement in the arts is associated with gains in math, reading, cognitive ability, critical thinking, and verbal skills. Additionally, arts education can also improve motivation, concentration, confidence, and teamwork.
